Cecile Richards Will Deliver the Keynote Address for the Young Women of Achievement Awards
We are thrilled to announce that Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF), will deliver the keynote address at the 20th annual Young Women of Achievement Awards (YWA). Cecile is a champion for reproductive rights and we are more than pleased that she will join us to celebrate the accomplishments of our talented nominees.
Since joining Planned Parenthood in 2006, Ms. Richards has expanded the organization’s advocacy for access to health care and ensured that Planned Parenthood played a pivotal role in shaping health care coverage and services for women under the Affordable Care Act. In 2011, she led an unprecedented nationwide campaign to preserve access to Planned Parenthood preventive care through federal programs. Under her leadership, the number of Planned Parenthood supporters has doubled, reaching more than seven million.
Before joining Planned Parenthood, Cecile served as deputy chief of staff for House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. In 2004, she founded and served as president of America Votes, a coalition of 42 national grassroots organizations working to maximize registration, education, and voter participation.
If you are new to WIN and YWA, it is WIN’s annual celebration of highly talented, up-and-coming young women leaders making a difference. YWA acknowledges young, Democratic, pro-choice women of excellence who have made strides in their field and a significant difference in the world. The nominees are Democratic, pro-choice women who are 35 years of age or younger, and live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
The ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Carnegie Institute and begin with a networking reception at 6:30pm, followed by the awards ceremony at 7:30pm where the winners will be announced.
