The Women’s Information Network is proud to announce our endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. Secretary Clinton has long stood up for the values that WIN works to uphold: inclusion, equal opportunity, and progress.
As President, Hillary Clinton will stand up to defend women’s healthcare rights, including fighting to continue funding Planned Parenthood. Clinton has a history of standing up to ensure that women are able to make their own reproductive choices. As a Senator, she sponsored an amendment to increase funding for access to family planning. She has continually fought to improve access to birth control and championed a woman’s right to choose.
Clinton also promotes paid family leave, ensuring that those who are balancing work and caring for their families will have the support of their work places and country. This balance is critical to the strength of our workforce.
For women in the workplace, Clinton will support equal pay for equal work. As a supporter of the Paycheck Fairness Act and a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, she works to break down glass ceilings in industries throughout the country.
Secretary Clinton has also announced a plan to combat sexual violence on college campuses throughout the United States. By fighting for support for survivors, Clinton’s plan will help ensure that more victims are able to come forward. Additionally, Clinton will work to fight back against domestic violence in the United States and encourage gender equality around the world.
WIN Chair Edwith Theogene said, “Secretary Hillary Clinton is the champion we need to strengthen our diverse and growing workforce. She is a lifelong committed public servant who continues to fight for equality and opportunity for women throughout the United States. The best way to fight for the values that WIN champions is to support Hillary in November.”
Secretary Clinton’s history of fighting for these issues and her campaign commitments to continue doing so align with WIN’s mission and values: we strive to support other women as they climb the ladder of success, professionally and politically. We believe that supporting young, pro-choice, Democratic women in Washington, D.C. means supporting a President who will fight for them. Secretary Clinton will also serve as a model for female leadership in the highest office in the world.
Stephanie King, WIN Political Director, noted that “supporting the Clinton candidacy is crucial in order to continue moving forward on progressive issues. She supports equality and women’s rights to make their own decisions, in contrast to Trump’s messages of hate and fostering divisions between those he feels are different.”
WIN Advisory Council Chair Madalene Mielke said,“building Democratic excitement and getting our voters to turnout in November will be crucial to ensuring Secretary Clinton wins the White House. It will be exciting for WIN to play an active role in this process and to stand up for a leader who stands up for us.”
In an effort to support the Clinton candidacy, WIN will be actively working to support voter turnout in D.C. and neighboring states. Phone banking, canvassing, and voter registration will all be crucial elements of the WIN plan this election season.
Join WIN in working to ensure that Hillary Clinton wins the White House in November! There will be a large number of opportunities to support our nominee as she runs to support pro-choice, Democratic women. Talk to your friends and family about the importance of voting, help us reach out to Democrats around the mid-Atlantic to drive turnout in November, and let’s elect a President who will stand up for pro-choice, Democratic values!
