Arts & Culture Network
The Arts & Culture Network aims to connect women in DC to each other through the arts and to promote women in the arts. The network encourages WIN members to discover and explore their artistic and cultural passions while enjoying the company of other pro-choice, Democratic women with similar interests. Network events include gallery tours, vineyard visits, dance performances and cultural festivals, among many others.
The Book Group aims to enrich the lives of WIN members by reading and discussing a variety of written works. Members generally meet once a month to discuss selections, which run the gamut from fiction and non-fiction to biography and classics. The network also occasionally sponsors special events, and regularly collaborates with other networks when a book incorporates their particular issues and interests.
The Communications Network is a resource for young professional women in the communications field. Network events promote professional growth through education and networking opportunities, such as workshops and trainings on strategic communications, messaging, social media, and interviewing.
The Environment Network seeks to empower young women interested in the environmental field to become leaders and provide opportunities to become more involved in the green movement. Activities include environmental film showings with discussions, networking happy hours, speaker events that represent different environmental areas such as energy, climate change, water, and social justice, a climate awareness bike ride, an invasive species removal, and a family and friends nature cleanup hike.
Faith & Spirituality Network
The Faith & Spirituality Network addresses how religious identity influences the way that we think about and engage in the world as pro-choice, Democratic women. For some, faith may be a point of tension in holding this position. For others, it may form the very core of their political views. This network provides a safe space to explore these issues of identity. The network includes all faith traditions – and those who do not identify with any particular religion.
The Food Network is dedicated to bringing WIN members together for conversation, networking, and friendship around a common unifier: food. So many women of all ages and walks of life–whether self-identified foodies, food industry professionals, casual bakers, or takeout devotees–are passionate about food. In career-focused city like DC, the Food Network offers WINners a chance to connect with one another outside strictly professional settings, based on the belief that networking can be more fun and more effective when it’s focused on something people love. Join us for potlucks, happy hours, brunches, and more as we cook and eat our way through life in DC!
The Government Network serves women who aspire to a career in public service in all branches of government, encompassing elected offices, as well as federal, state, local, and inter-governmental agencies. Our members include young and seasoned professionals, as well as those who are simply interested in learning more about how our government operates. Network programs provides pro-choice, Democratic women with valuable professional advice, training, mentorship and peer support as they advance in this field.
Health & Wellness Network
The Health & Wellness Network seeks to bring awareness about overall well-being to professional women. Balancing a career, family, and personal life is not an easy task in today’s world. However, it is our mission to make sure that women are educated, motivated, and have the support network they need.
The International Network engages WINners in learning about international cultures, as well as discussing current issues in international affairs and providing networking opportunities.
The Labor Network provides a space for WIN members to explore and connect with the labor movement. Labor unions have worked in support of the issues that WIN members champion daily, including civil rights, fair pay, health care reform, safe workplaces, anti-discrimination, and the right of employees to have lives that aren’t regulated by employers. WIN’s Labor Network brings together members of unions, those that work for labor unions, and people that have an interest in the movement to connect and share.
Lobbying & Advocacy Network
The Lobbying & Advocacy Network helps professional women interested in careers in advocacy, government relations, and lobbying to gain access to established networks of professionals within these fields. We seek to share professional expertise in the various aspects of state and federal government relations and illuminate how to pursue a career in legislative and regulatory advocacy.
The Nonprofit Network serves as a hub of discussion, support and empowerment for women working in the nonprofit field. Our members are devoted to building positive, productive nonprofit work environments and fostering professional and personal growth. WIN’s Nonprofit Network consists of nonprofit staff members (or those aspiring to be), as well as independent consultants and coaches who work with nonprofits. Anyone with an interest in contributing to the success, growth and integrity of the nonprofit world is more than welcome to join us!
The Pride Network works to enhance the professional, political, and social lives of WIN’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied members and to advocate for LGBT rights. The network seeks to create community for LGBT and allied WINners, to build individuals’ confidence as LGBT people and allies in professional and activist settings, and to expand understanding of LGBT issues within the WIN community.
The Pride Network’s diverse programming includes policy briefings on issues important to the LGBT community, cultural events such as beer tastings and drag performances, professional and personal development workshops, participation in the annual Capital Pride Parade, and any other events of interest to members.
Women in Entrepreneurship Network
The Women in Entrepreneurship Network seeks to engage, support, and connect pro-choice, Democratic women interested in a career in business and/or entrepreneurship. The network’s events provide networking opportunities with local industry leaders, business development specialists, and local officials across industries.
Women in Law Network
The Women in Law Network provides a forum for Democratic, pro-choice women to discuss and learn about contemporary issues of law and policy while networking with other like-minded women interested in these topics.
Network programs and events also connect members who are interested in attending law school with members who already have years of experience in the legal profession. The network hosts information sessions on getting into and succeeding in law school and discovering alternate career paths in the law.
Women in STEM Network
The WIN Women in STEM Network aims to connect women with the technology field through networking, training, and job opportunities. We welcome members who are not working in science, math, engineering, or technology and who simply want to discuss the disparities between genders in these fields. Through open dialogue and communal events, we hope to educate others on the difficulty faced by women in certain fields.
Women of Color Network
The Women of Color Network allows women of varied backgrounds to come together and discuss issues of significance to pro-choice, Democratic women of color. In a competitive professional world, where at times women of color can stand alone in the high ranks of their employ, the network aims to empower young professional women of color through mentoring and networking as they pave their way toward success.
Network events feature prominent minority women entrepreneurs and professionals from a variety of fields that share their experiences on making it as a woman of color in Washington.
Women’s Health Policy Network
The Women’s Health Policy Network informs women about current public health and health policy issues, educates women on the policy process, and serves as a place for women to network within and between health-related fields.
The WIN Writing Group allows members make writing a more regular part of their daily lives, helps members improve their writing–both by submitting their own pieces and by reading and discussing each others’–, and serves as a support group for writers to share resources, energy, support, and stories.
The WIN Writing Group workshops encompass anything from your blog posts to your law school personal statement to a memoir chapter, journal entry, personal essay, travel writing, first-person poem, piece of journalism, and beyond.
