Political Teams

WIN provides its members with opportunities to volunteer and work for campaigns, shape the agenda for the next generation of Democrats, and train to meet the demands of the field and public office. WIN members are committed to supporting a Democratic, pro-choice future. Members network, share resources, and offer each other encouragement to promote change on Capitol Hill, across the country, and around the world.

WIN is proud to have a political team that works to enhance our pro-choice, Democratic values through WIN programming and in Congress. We have five political tracks:

Practice Your Politics (PYP) is an initiative of WIN inspired by our members' desire to live out their political values at the community level. Our aim is to have an immediate impact on causes that we care about and strengthen relationships with local organizations. Practice Your Politics events will connect local-area direct service work with larger political change and give WINners the opportunity to engage in volunteer opportunities.

Past events have included building safe sex kits with Fight HIV in DC, beautifying our public spaces and parks as part of the MLK Day of Service, and a happy hour to raise awareness about violence against women and support organizations working to address this issue in DC.

WINning Political Action is responsible for working with WIN's Political Director to create a coordinated response to today's pressing political issues. This initiative creates a space for WIN members to engage in action-oriented opportunities including demonstrations, letters to the editor, calls or emails to Congress, and other creative strategies to influence current political debates. The Chairs of WINning Political Action also work with the Political Director and the Executive Committee to identify opportunities to elevate WIN's voice on emerging political issues that are in line with our mission.

The Congressional Council Liaisons highlight our Congressional Council members and the work they do by coordinating their participation in a variety of WIN events. The Liaisons work with the Political Director to plan and execute the annual Congressional Council reception on the Hill in honor of the pro-choice, Democratic women of Congress. This exclusive event, open only to WIN members, provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and hear directly from members of the Congressional Council. Additionally, Congressional Council Liaisons work on increasing networking opportunities for WIN members on the Hill.

WIN's Political Training Team identifies and plans political training opportunities for WIN members. These trainings offer WIN members the opportunity to increase their knowledge and obtain concrete skills that will help them succeed and advance in the political world. We seek to build and strengthen partnerships with other political and sister organizations to co-host events, negotiate discounts to trainings, and offer professional development opportunities.

Campaign Team connects WIN members directly to campaigns and elections. The Campaign Team mobilizes our members in DC, VA and MD to help elect pro-choice, Democratic candidates at all levels of government. Activities include phone banks, canvasses, and debate and election night watch parties. The Campaign Team also engages in non-direct action by providing WIN members the opportunity to network with campaign professionals and to learn about pro-choice, Democratic issues and grassroots organizations. From social events and panel discussions to career guidance and GOTV efforts, the Campaign Team engages WINners in the political process and exposes them to the frontlines of political campaigning.
